Chocolate Chickpea Brownies

  • 1 14 oz can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup of natural sweetner (honey or brown rice syrup)
  • 2 tablespoons full-fat coconut milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips (replace with cacao nibs for lower sugar version)


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a 9" x 9" pan with parchment paper (or lightly oil it).
  2. Add all ingredients for the brownies to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
  3. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 24 to 26 minutes or until brownies test clean.
  4. Allow brownies to cool at least 20 minutes before cutting and serving.


We all have sweet cravings, and rather than you reach for the sugar laden store brought brownies, it's better for your fertility to make your own!

These brownies taste as good as the real thing but with no refined sugar or grains. The chickpeas give them that moist, chewy texture, and the fibre from the chickpeas slows down the release of the natural sugar into your blood stream.  

Sugar is a cause of inflammation in the body which wreaks havoc with our hormones and jeopardises our chance of conceiving. I'm always realistic with my clients about cutting our sugar completely - it's tough to do and not much fun - so I prefer to cut back as much as possible without having to forgo yummy food like chocolate brownies! With a few tweaks we can have our cake and eat it too.
